ad fontes?

I have heard it argued (and sometimes ad nauseum) by Eastern Orthodox and even Roman Catholic friends that the Apostolic fathers interpretation of scripture is to be trusted and relied upon because they were so close to the events of the New Testament and to the Apostles themselves. However for anyone who has been preaching through 1 and 2 Corinthians for the last several months this observation by said friends just does not ring true. For after all who, among all of the churches Paul addressed, misunderstood Scripture and the teachings of Jesus and Paul so profoundly as the Corinthians, a church planted and superintended by Paul himself and of course a very Greek church as well.

Greeks, as we know, seek after wisdom……..
